GATE 2015 Entrance Exam – Complete Information

GATE 2015 Entrance Exam abbreviated as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All India level Entrance examination to be conducted to impart admission to the qualified candidates in the postgraduate engineering programs in the most prestigious Institute of Higher Education in the country. The exam is conducted once every year. In the year 2015, the GATE Exam is scheduled to be held on 31st January and 1st, 7th, 8th and 14th February, 2015. The exam will be conducted in various cities all over India.

Administration – The GATE Entrance Exam 2015 will be jointly administered by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology ( including Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee).

GATE 2015 Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible to apply, Candidates must hold undergraduate degree in B.E or B.Tech
  • Candidates who are appearing in the 4th year of the undergraduate degree are also eligible to send their application

GATE 2015 Application Form and Fee –

The Application form of GATE 2015 will be released on 1st September 2014.

Candidates are informed that application form will be available through online mode only i.e. on the official website of GATE 2015 or respective Zonal GATE websites of IISc and any of the seven IITs. No other mode of application is applicable.

Candidates will have to register themselves on the official website and fill the details in the application form. In addition to that, candidates have to make online payment of application fee which is non-refundable

Mode of Application Fee Payment – Candidates can make payment of application fee via net banking, debit/credit card or E-challan .

GATE 2015 Application Fee –

  • Male Candidates (General/OBC) – Rs.1500

  • Women Candidates of any category – Rs.750

  • Other Candidates (General/OBC) – Rs.1500

  • SC / ST / PwD Category Candidates – Rs.750

GATE 2015 Selection Criteria –

The selection for admission will be made on the basis of scores by the candidates in the GATE 2015 Entrance Exam. Each candidate will be issued a GATE 2015 Scorecard.

GATE 2015 Entrance Exam Pattern –

  • GATE 2015 Exam is comprised of 100 maximum marks with 65 questions in total
  • The exam will be conducted through online mode only
  • The duration for the examination is 3 hours
  • The question paper of GATE Entrance Exam 2015 is comprised of a certain set of questions from Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Answer Questions etc. These questions can be placed randomly in the GATE Exam

Details –

  • Each Multiple Choice Questions will carry 1 or 2 marks and will have 4 options. Candidates will have to choose the right answer with their understanding

  • Each Numerical Answer Questions will have no options to choose from and will carry 1 or 2 marks. They will be subjective. Candidates will be required to type the correct answer as per their understanding using the virtual keyboard.

  • There will be total 10 numbers of Questions from General Aptitude. There will be one set of 5 questions carrying 1-mark each and another set of 5 questions for 2-marks each. The purpose is to test General Aptitude skills, Language and Analytic Skills of the candidates. The section will carry maximum marks of 15.

  • Rest of the part of the question paper in the Entrance Exam of GATE 2015 will be comprised of questions from core subject as chosen by the candidates

Negative Marking Scheme in GATE 2015 Entrance Exam

  • For each 1 mark multiple-choice questions answered wrongly by the candidates, 1/3 marks will be deducted per question

  • For each 2 mark multiple-choice questions marked incorrectly by the candidates, 2/3 marks will be deducted per question

  • There is NO provision of negative marking for numerical questions.
