Detailed IAS 2015 Syllabus:
The UPSC IAS Examination will be conducted in three phases- A preliminary examination, Main examination and interview. The syllabus for each of these phases has been described below.
Syllabus for the Preliminary Examination of IAS 2015:
The Preliminary Examination also called CSAT or the Civil Services Aptitude Test will test the examinee’s ability to tackle analytical and reasoning questions. The exam will comprise of two papers in General Studies consisting of multiple choice questions. CSAT will just be a screening test and the marks obtained by the candidate will not be counted in their final merit.
Syllabus for CSAT Paper- I:
- General Knowledge and Current events (National and International).
- Indian History and the Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography (Physical, Social, Economic)
- Indian Polity and Governance.
- Economic and Social Development
- General Issues such as Environmental Ecology, Bio-Diversity, Climate change etc.
- General Science
Syllabus for CSAT Paper-II:

The UPSC has however scrapped out the English Language Comprehension section from gradation.
Syllabus for the Main Examination:
The Main Examination will comprise of subjective papers and will consist of more in-depth questions. The examine will have to attempt a total of 9 papers, out of which two papers are qualifying in nature.
The qualifying papers will be for 300 marks each and candidates need to merely qualify in these papers. The remaining seven papers will be for 250 marks each. The papers for the Main Examination has been listed below:
1. Any Indian Language (Qualifying Paper)
2. English (Qualifying Paper)
3. Essay
4. General Studies Paper- 1, which will include topics such as Indian Heritage/Culture, Geography and World History.
5. General Studies Paper-II, which will include topics such as Constitution,Polity,Governance, Social Justice and International Relations.
6. General Studies Paper-III will include topics such as Economic Development,Bio-Diversity, Security and Disaster Management, Environment and Technology.
7. General Studies Paper-IV will include topics such as Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude.
